Dupuytren's disease: personal factors and occupational exposure.
BACKGROUND The etiology of Dupuytren's disease is unknown, and the role of occupational exposure is still debated. Our objective was to study the association between occupational exposures, personal risk factors and Dupuytren's disease. METHODS In this cross-sectional survey, nine occupational physicians performed clinical examinations, focused on Dupuytren's disease, of 2,406 French male civ...
متن کاملRisk factors for intraocular melanoma and occupational exposure.
Ocular melanoma is an uncommon cancer. Age standardised incidence ranges from 0.4 to 1.2 cases per 100 000 within Europe and from 0.1 to 2.3 worldwide (figures from WHO and International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC)). Only one report suggests any change over decades. However, incidence data from the USA show a decrease over the period 1973–89. The behaviour of intraocular melanoma varie...
متن کاملClimate Factors Influencing Coccidioidomycosis Seasonality and Outbreaks
Although broad links between climatic factors and coccidioidomycosis have been established, the identification of simple and robust relationships linking climatic controls to seasonal timing and outbreaks of the disease has remained elusive. Using an adaptive data-oriented method for estimating date of exposure, in this article I analyze hypotheses linking climate and dust to fungal growth and ...
متن کاملRisk Factors for Disseminated Coccidioidomycosis, United States
Of 150,000 new coccidioidomycosis infections that occur annually in the United States, ≈1% disseminate; one third of those cases are fatal. Immunocompromised hosts have higher rates of dissemination. We identified 8 patients with disseminated coccidioidomycosis who had defects in the interleukin-12/interferon-γ and STAT3 axes, indicating that these are critical host defense pathways.
متن کاملEstimation of Occupational Exposure during Ceramic Manufacturing
Introduction: The present study investigated the relatively high concentrations of natural radionuclides in raw material that used in ceramic manufacturing, and estimated the occupational exposure due to these activity concentrations. Material and Methods: A high-purity Germanium detector was used to determine naturally occurring radionuclide...
